Second, the import volume of halobutyl rubber in non anti-dumping areas increased. In August 2018, the Ministry of Commerce issued an announcement to increase the anti-dumping duty on imports of halogenated butyl rubber from the United States, the European Union and Singapore. Subsequently, the number of imports of halogenated butyl rubber from the region decreased significantly. But at the same time, imports of halobutyl rubber from Saudi Arabia, Canada and Russia began to increase. The import volume of halogenated butyl rubber in 2020 only decreased by 10.24% compared with that in 2018, with a limited decline.

In terms of import source countries, the top three import sources of China's butyl rubber in 2020 are Russia, Saudi Arabia and Singapore. Compared with 2019, the import volume of Canadian goods decreased significantly, mainly due to the unstable operation of Canadian plants from January to may, resulting in a significant decrease in market supply. Russia's import volume is still in the first place, and its proportion is further increased compared with last year, which is related to its geographical location and price advantage. The share of Russian ordinary butyl rubber in the domestic market is further increased.

At present, with the rising price of imported butyl rubber, the enthusiasm of importers has declined. With the further release of domestic production capacity, China's self-sufficiency rate of butyl rubber will gradually increase, and its import dependence will decline. It is expected that China's imports of butyl rubber will decline in 2021.
